Waves

The sun began to set beyond the horizon. The sky danced with colours of red, orange and pink, leaving an imprint on the waves below. The sun itself was golden and seemed as if it was being swallowed by the ocean like a precious treasure being stolen from the sky.

Roxanne sat on the sandy beach watching the sunset, very tempted to reach out and grab the sun before it was taken away. She sighed, grabbing a rock beside her instead. She looked at it, studying what was in her hand before throwing it into the water ahead of her.

The ocean was such an amazing place. It could be calm or wild; it could be gentle and soft or angry and hard. And under the waves there was so much to offer. So much life to explore, so much beauty to see, and so much stuff to learn.

Humans knew more about what’s on the moon than they did the ocean. And the oceans are what most of this planet is made up of! It was so calm, so wild, so, so...

...deep.

Roxanne gulped when the thought crossed her mind. She was intrigued by the oceans beauty and grace but then again she also feared it for its danger and deepness... She sighed again, remembering the time when the ocean was a friend and not feared enemy. It was so long ago, when she was younger-

NO!!

Roxanne shook her head furiously before burying it in her knees. She refused to remember! She couldn’t remember! She can’t remember! If she did remember it then other painful memories would follow!

She lifted her head, hot tears running down her face. Roxanne looked at the sun disappear behind the waves, showing a few rays before they disappeared too. The stars then shone their light, making their own reflections on the waves below along with the moon right beside them.

Roxanne yelped and quickly jumped up when she felt something wet at her feet. She had been so distracted in her own thoughts that she hadn’t noticed that the tide had come in. She took a few steps away from the waves and looked out to the ocean again. It was so beautiful yet so deadly.

She sighed one last time before heading home.
